iPhone 16 - A Failed Product

This year the iPhone 16 models get a new camera island, an Action button, and a few minor changes here and there. But there are more subtle changes...

There may be various reasons why you are looking to buy a new phone, an old phone break, a green or pink line on display, the cost of repair being huge, and so on but should you buy the recently launched iPhone 16 series. Well, the iPhone has always been an industry standard but the influence of its brand and features seems to be decreasing as time goes on.



This year the iPhone 16 models get a new camera island, an Action button, and a few minor changes here and there. But there are more subtle changes in the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. The iPhone 16 Pro model features bigger displays, more minimal bezels, an improved camera, and other upgrades. But the thing that attracts folks for not going to the discounted iPhone 15 is the Apple Intelligent or AI features which is supposed to come with iOS 18.1 in later months, which is only available in the Pro lineup of the previous year. So, if that matters then you should look for the iPhone 15 Pro at a discounted rate or rather move along with the iPhone 16 lineup.

The iPhone 16 lineup is starting from Rs 79,900 ($957) in Indian market. The pricing of the iPhone 16 lineup remains unchanged while the 16 Pro models have seen less price spike compared to last year's iPhone 15 Pro models which might be due to the starting of assembly on Indian soil.

iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are launched with four new color options, including Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium.

Apple has launched this year's lineup with minor improvements over the last year. The non-Pro iPhone 16 models have gone back to vertical camera alignment, the mute switch replaced with a new Action button, and the new Camera button on the right edge below the power switch. The new camera button has been introduced across the models of this year.

The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max have also got a little increase in screen, which are 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch respectively. Additionally, iPhone 16 models are powered by Apple A18 chipset, and the Pro models have A18 Pro chipset. These new chips and more RAM enable the iPhone 16 series to support Apple Intelligence which will come with iOS 18.1.

So, What's the catch? 


The new camera button which is introduced seems to be less useful and unnecessary and seems less intuitive. Inspite, Apple would have offered a 120Hz refresh rate in the non-Pro lineup which folks have been asking for. So, if you had an iPhone 15 or Pro then don't upgrade, you can skip it. If you are looking for AI then you can look at iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 lineup. For now, the iPhone 16 lineup feels like a failed product. Feel free to share your thoughts.
